Model organisms have been immensely useful to understand basic biological questions. Despite being separated by several hundred millions years of evolution, the basic principles of life is remarkably similar on the cellular level. Find out how model organisms help us study chromosome inheritance to gain a deeper understanding of health and disease. Speaker is Dr. Patrick Heun from University of Edinburgh Hosted by U3A.

Join a Penicuik Estate Ranger as we hunt for these fascinating creatures during an evening stroll around the estate. Following a route from the car park down to Old Penicuik House we will look and listen for bats using detectors which will help us to identify the different bat species that live here. We may even spot some of the other nocturnal residents of the estate. Please bring a torch and wear sturdy footwear and a waterproof jacket. Booking Essential.
