From Maxwell to Higgs
Fri October 17, 2014 @ 19:30 – 20:30
Event Navigation

Dr Alan Walker MBE (Higgs right hand man!) will take us from James Clerk -Maxwell to the Higgs Boson on this enlightening journey through physics.
James Clerk-Maxwell (1831-1879) was a Scottish physicist with family links to Penicuik who is famous for discovering the links between electricity, magnetism and light.
Peter Higgs won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2013. In the 1960s he was among several physicists who proposed a mechanism to explain why the most basic building blocks of the Universe have mass. The mechanism predicts a particle – the Higgs boson – which was finally discovered in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at Cern, in Switzerland.
We are in for a real treat with this event which comes directly after ‘A Musical Evening with Clerk-Maxwell’.
This is a free event, no ticket is needed.
