Saving the Men – The Glennie Lamp

Countless miners have been saved over the years by the careful monitoring of poisonous and explosive gasses in the mines.  The Glennie lamp is central to this essential part of a Pit Deputy’s work.  Visit the National Mining Memorial Centre, meet our pit deputies and see how this wonderful 19th century invention works.
